Quick Guide

2D Images

Step 1

To retrieve gene expression patterns, searches can be initiated by entering the information in the search box located either in the main page or in the search page (click "Start EMBRYS"). Queries can be made using either gene symbol or NCBI Gene ID (check either one you desire).

Step 2

Type a gene symbol (either complete or partial) or Gene ID (complete only) into the search box and click "Search". If the query is initiated in the main page, you will be automatically directed to the search page. The entered letters can be deleted by clicking the "Clear". Following query, all the candidate gene symbols are listed under the search box based on the information you entered.

Step 3

To see the images, click the gene symbol of your interest, and all the images available are displayed as small thumbnails at the top and the primer information is displayed at the bottom. Click the thumbnails you want to observe more carefully, and then the enlarged image is shown in the main screen.

For your convenience, the image can be further zoomed or shrunk using a scrolling wheel on the mouse. Locate the pointer at anywhere within the main picture and the image can be enlarged by scrolling up and shrunk scrolling down the wheel. If desired, particularly when you enlarge, you can drag the image (pressing and holding a button, then moving the mouse without releasing) so that the location of your interest can be more closely observed.

You can jump to either NCBI or MGI to see more information on the gene. Also, the 2D images are linked to the AERO images.

Please click the logos located on the right top of the main image to go to these sites.

AERO Images

Step 1

To view AERO images, go to the gene list either via the top page or via the Resource page. Click a gene of your interest in the list to open a new window.

Step 2

Because AERO images for only 191 genes are tentatively available at present, these genes are all listed alphabetically in the Resource page (no search system is available for now). Click a gene of interest to see the details of the data set, and then select the image you desire to see.

(a) Gene symbol
(b) Stage: 095=E9.5, 105=E10.5, 115=E11.5
(c) Orientation: F=Front, B=Back, L=Left, R=Right

Step 3

For AERO images, the mouse is the primary control devise. Images can be easily rotated with a mouse by clicking and dragging horizontally from one edge to the other edge of the screen.
